MEET THE TEACHERS

Ashley - July 20th

Ashley stepped into her first yoga class in adulthood, and she felt like she was coming up for air navigating the busy world and adult life. Yoga soon became Ashley's way of finding peace and grounding for both the body and the mind by exploring movement in a different way and has been hooked ever since.

By day, Ashley is a high school teacher and her passion for sharing and exploring the process of the learning journey inspired her to embark on her Foundational Modo (Hatha) Teacher training, followed by various other styles including, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and Barre (dance inspired movements, pilates and yoga all in one). In a world where our attention is pulled in so many directions with demands and responsibilities, the goal in any of her classes is that when you are on your mat, connect with your breath in the present moment (a lot easier said than done, based on our hectic lifestyles!) and honour your body to move exactly how it feels and needs to in that present moment. Ashley is aware of her positionality as a Yoga teacher in the West and tries to amplify, versus appropriating the voices, practice and teachings of the deeper roots of Yoga.

Ashley teaches at various studios around the east GTA including Bare Yoga and Athletics in Markham and Pickering, Modo Yoga Scarborough, and Kind Yoga Markham, as well as in less traditional spaces like nursing homes, student summer camps and within her own school for staff and students and in her own online. In Ashley's classes you will find a balance of strengthening, stretching and core work with a focus on anatomical alignment while moving to the rhythm of your breath.

Aura - August 3rd

Yogi.  Mommy of two.  Wifey of one.  Engineer.

Yoga has complimented every aspect of Aura’s life, whether it be through increased focus in her profession or by practicing forgiveness and love as a mother.   In 2012, after years of struggling to seek balance in her life and health, Aura turned to yoga.  Since then, she has been committed to a daily yoga practice of breath and mindfulness.  This journey led her to India in 2014, where she was first introduced to Ayurveda – the sister science of yoga and eventually to Kelowna, BC in 2018 to complete her Yoga Teacher training.  Native to the Scarborough, Aura is excited to share her love of this practice with the community!

Aura’s Hatha-based style is suitable for all levels, offering both modifications and variations to the sequence.
