Amy wen - “Screenwriting: The Short”
The program aims to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, tools, and confidence to further develop their unique voices and continue telling stories that reflect their communities and lived experiences. Through a series of 3 workshops in May led by a facilitator, participants will identify the story they want to tell, learn the fundamentals of screenwriting along with a small cohort, workshop their short script, and present their work at the Guild Festival Theatre YES program showcase.
LOOKING FOR: Youth with a passion for storytelling and interest in learning cinematic writing, who may have experienced barriers in the past preventing their access to film and arts learning.

JASMINE VANSTONE - “Nourishing Roots: Dutch Pot in Diaspora ”
Dutch Pot in Diaspora is a creative anthology centering Afro/Caribbean/Black youth (ages 18–30) who have a relationship to Scarborough. We are gathering creative work (poetry, visual art, etc) that explores the rich connections between cultural heritage and food sovereignty. Selected artists will receive an honorarium and have their work published in a print and digital anthology. Copies of the anthology are available for pick-up near Fairview Mall (pick-up dates TBD).
LOOKING FOR: Afro/Caribbean/Black youth (ages 18–30) who have a relationship to Scarborough for poetry, visual arts, and other creative work.

Kay wong - “the k-pop play”
Kay Wong is hosting theatre workshops for up to 20 Scarborough youth (ages 12 - 30) to learn about their experiences of accessing the arts in Scarborough. Participants will receive $20 for each workshop, acting lessons, free food, and the chance to help develop and perform in a new play in development, The K-Pop Play.
LOOKING FOR: Youth workshop participants, 12-30 years old, live in Scarborough, available April 25 and May 2.

Wasifa Noshin - “Playwriting for Youths in Scarborough”
Over six weeks, Toronto-based, multi-disciplinary artist Wasifa Noshin is running a series of playwriting workshops (beginner’s/ developing short plays) with youths in Scarborough at the ACSA Dorset Park Hub, facilitated by Toronto-based Playwright Cadence Bishop. This program will allow youths to apply themselves as they develop new works, short plays. We will dive deep into the world of playwriting while exploring storytelling based off our unique life experiences. Participating youths will be granted travel tokens, honorariums and food provided at the workshops, hosted at the ACSA Dorset Park Community Hub.
LOOKING FOR: Youths aged 16-30 with an interest in writing. Be able to attend a weekly workshop every Sunday for 6 weeks with a 3-hour time dedication weekly.
